The Lightship Portsmouth

These photos are all from my recent trip to Portsmouth, VA and Washington D.C. We were there for a family reunion. The scenery there was lovely and old and it was really cool for me, since I'm a West coaster and am not used to there being cool old stuff just everywhere. It was also ridiculously hot and I don't intend to ever, ever live there. But it's nice to visit and take pictures of. Most of the photos are unedited, because I have Photoshop now but I'm lazy, there are a ton, and I don't really know how to use Photoshop except for the very very basic stuff.

This is... well, it's the Lightship Portsmouth, which has been converted into a museum about itself and now rests in a park by the shore in the downtown area. Lightships are like lighthouses, except that they're ships. The usefulness of this kind of escapes me, but that's what they are. It is the Lightship Portsmouth because it was originally made in Portsmouth, and it went to many other places where when it was there they painted the name of the city on the side. When it came back home to be decommissioned, they painted the name Portsmouth on it and planted it in concrete. Rather a big ship too, so you can't see the full word.
